  I called the Newport Post Office multiple times with no answer but, then again, I tried calling every post office in Pend Oreille County with no answer. All I wanted to know is how to pick up a package in Newport for my mother who is in the nursing home when I'm only in Newport on the weekends to visit her. I pick up her other mail from her post office box. The 800 number is an automated reply system. This set-up isn't user-friendly at all. The Newport facility would be better served to have a recording that simply says they don't answer their phone.

  The Newport Post office located at 100 N Washington St in Newport Washington 99156 is overcharging, opening packages and I have opened a consumer affairs case with regards to this post office. Details: 7/22/16 Received postage due on 1st package in PO Box. $1.89 7/29/16 Received 3 postage due on 3 packages with 3 different shippers totaling $5.03 8/3/16 Fed-ex Smart Post package delivered across counter at newport post office at 4:49 pm. I was in Liberty Lake Washington 8/5/16 Raised hell at post office. Tyler the post master involved. Suddenly package that was supposedly delivered across counter found. After talking with Tyler. Package was opened taped back shut and written in black sharpie: "Please Hold, opened in error" 8/13/16 Package attempt via UPS Sure Post to deliver to my physical address supposedly notice left - there was no notice left. I was home all day. At no point was there any notification left at my home. Not in my PO box or anywhere on the premises. I was home the entire day in my home and in my yard. At no point did ANY USPS vehicle come anywhere near my home. 8/15/16 Left in Mail box: Postage Due $9.80 for a UPS Sure Post Package. By the way the Shipper was AMAZON. 8/16/16 Filed consumer affairs complaint with the US Postal Service. The customer service agent stated there is something definitely going on in that post office and Tyler who is the post master in that office is not assisting in the matter. 8/16/16 Just got off the phone with Tyler the Postmaster at the newport post office. He said he cannot attest to the overcharges or the package being opened. He said the package was charged the $9.80 because it was forwarded to my po box and he's required to charge the fee. Seriously? I did not agree to this! He said he cannot do anything about the rest of the issues. Tyler the postmaster is probably the one committing fraud and attempted mail theft at this post office in my opinion based on how he is handling (and the package suddenly showing up after enough time to retrieve it from someone home).

  Any other post office can answer simple questions and leave you feeling good. But this newport post office is full of crabby old women who apparently don't get paid enough to do their jobs. I called to ask about picking up a package there at the office and was snapped at and told that they can't just look up any package to find out if it's there. Didn't make sense as, that IS their job... Also they never answer the phones. Find new employees please!!! Or train them to be pleasant!

  Claimed they tried to deliver an hour before they even opened. I was home all day and no one even came near my house.
